Involving Young People

Urban Youth was set up because young people wanted to engage in positive activities that were both social and educational and that were not part of the generic Youth Service.

Young people have been involved in the decision making process and planning of the Urban Youth projects since the begining of Urban Youth. Between August 2005 and May 2006, Urban Youth held several Consultations and questioned over 200 young people living in and around Tower Hamlets.

We believe that young people deserve quality youth clubs and activities, this is why we are committed in helping these young people to get what they want. We will do this by empowering them, giving them responsiblities and helping them to take an active role in developing themselves and their local community.

Urban Youth believes that we should provide a quality service to all young people and actively challenge discrimination. We welcome young people from all sections of the community regardless of their race, gender, sexuality, disability, religious, political and cultural beliefs.

Youth Steering Group

The Youth Steering Group (YSG) are a small group of young people who are the 'Youth Directors' of the organisation. They are led by a President and a Vice President, working closely with the Director and the Management Committee and put forward their ideas and suggestions, ensuring that the organisation adheres to its Policies & Procedures.

Volunteer Staff

Our groups and services are staffed by friendly and experienced volunteer workers who are dedicated to providing a quality service for all young people they work with and promoting equal access. All our volunteers and staff are CRB checked and are involved in ongoing training including personal development programmes.

We are currently recruiting for more volunteer roles: Youth Support Workers and Youth Team Leaders. Please submit your CV by email to hr@urbanyouth.org.uk
