Arctic Stories
A thematic approach to the curriculum for children age 9-12

Price: £60.00

Arctic Stories seeks to ask moral questions about the impact of the developed world on the Arctic, both in the past and the present and this pack is built around the stories of Arctic peoples.

It has been designed to promote the skills based curriculum with a particular focus on thinking and communication skills, also covering aspects of ICT and drama. When children are invited to learn about the world through narratives they become emotionally engaged.

Teachers using this pack will find that the stories and activities engage the emotional commitment of the children and stimulate their cognitive development. The activities help children learn about the ecosystem of the Arctic and how the indigenous peoples relate to it. Pupils are encouraged to speculate about the future and investigate ways in which they could act to infl uence it.

Most of the activities require children to work collaboratively in pairs or groups, where they are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and that of others.

Pack includes:
  • Teachers Handbook
  • Photocopiable Worksheets
  • Five A5 Keila Storybooks
  • DVD
  • Two A3 Culturegrams
  • Animal cards and Sun card

The work of Kieran Egan has influenced the preparation of this pack.
