Table Mountain Ironwood
| | | Table Mountain Ironwood® represents a blend of rare antique seasoned timbers from Africa's historic past with todays ecologically controlled African Ironwood to lay down unique beautifully marked and styled furniture for current and future generations to enjoy.
In 1888 British colonialist Cecil John Rhodes started building the first railway line in Southern Rhodesia, it was extended north, reaching Victoria Falls in 1903. This spine of Africa employed indigenous hardwood sleepers to fix rails and support trains.
The magnificent Southern Cape forests are one of South Africa's greatest natural heritages, owing their existence to the regular, orographic rainfall in the region. For many years the forests were mercilessly robbed of their rich resources, heavy demand for Ironwood due to its strength beauty and versatility has led to the now rare Ironwood being ecologically managed according to strict conservation principles. Now, only one continuous area of the Southern Western Cape has a true temperate forest in which Ironwood survives.
In original form salvaged timbers can be burnished smooth with the glowing patina that only time can produce, or left gnarled and weathered, proudly bearing the scars of a hundred years of sun, wind and rain. Whilst ruggedly handsome in this original state it is only when reworked do these heritage beams reveal their full beauty.
The Brand on our furniture represents the quality control on your furniture to ensure:
