The contribution made by South Wales to the entertainment industry over the past 50 years alone is second to none, need we quote the names… Milland, Burton, Hopkins, Sheen... Jones (various… not forgetting CZ). Its high time Swansea had a major event celebrating film.
The Swansea Film Festival is a celebration for filmmakers and artists of the moving image from around the world and around the corner. This is the festival that honours artists for their individual voice. Its mission is to provide a worldwide public forum for independent and experimental film makers and to offer educational outreach. Created as an alternative to commercial cinema and mainstream film festivals, our week-long festival aims to be enlightening as well as entertaining. The inaugural Swansea Film Festival will run Saturday June 3rd until Friday June 9th 2006.
The Special Selection committee of the festival will comprise seasoned Filmmakers, representatives from The City & County of Swansea, The Dylan Thomas Centre, The Swansea Arts Forum Trust and The Department of Adult & Continuing Education at Swansea University (DACE). This group will advise on programme events and some aspects of the competition judging.
The event programme will be varied and hopefully attract a high standard of entries - especially from Wales. The growing impact of the media sector in the spectrum of economic activity in South Wales is gathering pace and the total workforce in these cultural sectors now outstrips those working in the older traditional industries.
The Swansea Film Festival runs from June 3rd to June 9th 2006 and welcomes submissions from all. Whether professionals, amateurs, students or first timers. Your prospects are in noway diminished by not having the status of a 'professional's or working for an established media organisation.
