Name: The club will be called St Bartholomew’s Sunday Club, also known as St Bart’s Sunday Club, (hereinafter called “the Club”).
Affiliation within the East Ham Parish: St Bartholomew’s Church is a member of the East Ham Parish whose governing body is the Parochial Church Council (PCC). The activities of the Sunday Club that pertain to St Bartholomew’s Church are overseen by the District Church Council (DCC) of St Bartholomew’s Church. Those activities of the Sunday Club that pertain to St Bartholomew’s Church plus other churches within the East Ham Parish are overseen by the East Ham PCC.
Aims: To provide Christian teaching and Christian fellowship to children and young people who attend St Bartholomew’s church. This is done principally on Sunday mornings while the main church service is proceeding but in a room separate from the service. Occasional trips lasting less than a day and sometimes requiring a residential period, will also provide additional opportunity for Christian fellowship.
Membership: All children aged between 4 and 18 years of age are welcome to attend Sunday Club. Attendance is free. Adult leaders of Sunday Club are considered ‘teachers’ (those who design and lead the lessons) or ‘helpers’ (those who may participate in activities in an assistant role, or whom just attend in order that the class is conducted under Child Protection guidelines). In line with Chelmsford Diocesan Guidelines, all ‘teachers’ and ‘helpers’ will sign an application form providing sufficient personal details such that their suitability as a children’s worker may be confirmed by the Criminal Records Bureau. Adult leaders of the Sunday Club are responsible to the DCC for the safe running of the Sunday Club.
Conduct during Sunday Club activities: The Sunday Club will follow the Child Protection guidelines provided by the Chelmsford Diocese. This will include always having a minimum of 2 adults (at least one of whom is female) while Sunday Club activities are proceeding. The Sunday Club will adhere strictly to an Equal opportunities policy with regard to appointment of Adult Leaders and acceptance of children and young people within its activities. Adult leaders, children and young people within the Sunday Club will be instructed to follow a strict anti-discriminatory policy. Both the Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory policy are described separately below.
Child Protection: The Club shall operated in accordance with the Diocese of Chelmsford Child Protection Policy/Guidelines, (as may be revised from time to time), adopted by the Parish of East Ham and its Parochial Church Council.
Finance: Adult leaders of the Sunday Club will attempt to raise sufficient money from fund-raising exercises (e.g. raffles, fayres), donations and grants from within and without the church from individuals or organisations in order to purchase those materiel or services required to achieve its aims. All monies collected will be banked through the East Ham PCC account and said monies specifically raised for, or spent on behalf of, the Sunday Club will be recorded by the Parish Treasurer. The Club’s finances will be audited annually as part of the East Ham PCC accounts.
