St Bartholomew's Church
We believe in life before death

Christian Aid Week

By supporting Christian Aid Week, you are among millions of people who think poverty is a scandal we do not have to accept. Your actions, commitment and contributions will bring about a better life for people in poor communities all over the world.

We believe in life before death. Life is for living, not merely surviving.

A little of your time can help people in the Third World stand on their own two feet. You can be an important part of this year's Christian Aid Week by volunteering to deliver and collect our red donation envelope, (available at St Bartholomew's Church & Centre during each annual Christian Aid Week).

Christian Aid Week video - Dance for life:

Development work can involve some surprising methods. Help with the supply and production of food or with access to medical care can be offered alongside more unusual projects – like dance. One of Christian Aid’s partners in Ethiopia, The Gemini Trust, is pioneering the use of dance to achieve very real results.

Royal Ballet star Carlos Acosta has taken a close interest in Gemini’s use of dance in Ethiopia – and feels a common bond with the dancers. A video can be viewed online.

The work of the Gemini Trust and its dance group Adugna is not confined to HIV awareness raising. The group also uses the unique ability of dance to challenge prejudice.

Trade Justice Campaign:

Half the world's population are living in poverty and the gap between rich and poor is widening. The global trading system lies at the heart of this inequality.

Christian Aid is campaigning for trade justice with the rules weighted in favour of poor people. Your role is vital.

UK farmers visit west Africa:

Four farmers from the UK travelled with Christian Aid to meet farmers in Burkina Faso. Read their diaries and discover their thoughts on the similar struggles, the inequalities and the impact of global politics.

Christian Aid and a host of other charities and campaigning organisations call on Gordon Brown to increase spending on international aid at the launch of the 00.7% campaign

President issues praise for debt campaigners:

President Benjamin William Mkapa of Tanzania has issued a personal letter thanking campaigners for helping to deliver debt cancellation for his country.

MPs debate trade justice:

Can I quote you on that?

Check out our updated quotes page for inspiration and food for thought from Nelson Mandela, Bono, Radiohead and many more.
