Transfers

How does the transfer process work?

Transfers can be done almost immediately through the Online Service account which Nominet provides for each Registrant of a .uk domain name(s).

The SELLER needs to login to their account to approve the transfer. Nominet will then send an email to the BUYER with instructions to complete the transfer. If the buyer does not complete the process within five days the transfer will automatically be cancelled.

How can I move my domain name to another Registrar (ISP)?

During the transfer process you have an option to move the domain to your chosen **Registrar. We recommend that, prior to completing a transfer, you login to your Nominet Online account,

Online Service Login or here

Online Service (password reset)

It is then a simple matter to add the new domain to your existing account, and Registrar.

If you are not logged into your Nominet account during the transfer you can still select a new Registrar, but the request may be rejected by the new Regsistrar if their system is not expecting the domain. This could delay the domain transfer for five days, after which the process is automatically cancelled by Nominet.

Alternatively, you can leave the domain on our system (Tag = SHORES). We make no charge to release domains to other Registrars. To do this we need an instruction from the Registrant and the Tag name of the new Registrar.

Can you not simply move the domain to our Registrar (ISP)?

The only way to change the Registrant is by completing the Nominet transfer process. The domain can be moved to another Registrar during the transfer process, but we will not release a domain(s) before a transfer is completed.

What is the transfer charge for?

The Registrant of a .uk domain can only be changed by Nominet.

To process a transfer they require a payment of £10 +VAT to cover administration costs.

Would I need to repeat the process to transfer many domains?

There is also a bulk transfer facility for changing the Registrant on a quantity of domains. The current Registrant and TAG must be same for each domain, and the domains must all be transferred to a single new Registrant.

This means that if you have domains with different Registrars and you wish to do a single bulk transfer, you need to move the domains to the same Registrar and merge them all into the same account before starting the transfer.
