These films are designed to improve the safety performance of existing glass. Professionally installed they have been tested to BS6206 Class B and are used throughout commerce to upgrade existing “non-safety” glass to the requirements of Regulation 14 of the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992.
Although these films are normally supplied as a clear material, options are available to combine solar control and privacy with safety performance in one film.
Where there is a high risk of smash and grab attacks these films provide an invisible barrier as a deterrent to opportunists. They are designed to make glass significantly more difficult to use as a point of access. Holding the glass together for longer and requiring much more effort and ingenuity on the part of the attacker, they are often sufficient to “scare away” all but the most determined criminals.
These films meet the minimum performance standard required by the Ministry of Defence for Bomb Blast or Anti Shatter protection and achieve BS6206 Class A.
In the main they are supplied as a clear film, however there are a limited number of materials available that provide security, privacy and solar control performance.
Solar Control Window Films act as a barrier between building occupants and the worst effects of the sun. With glare reduction and heat gain reduction of up to 90%, whilst still allowing clear vision from inside to out they are a massive aid in providing more comfortable working environments.
Silver, Copper, Bronze, Neutral and Grey finishes are the main core products but other solutions may be available dependant on availability and suitability of glass.
Most solar films are available in differing densities. These differences in density provide flexibility in performance levels as well as allowing use on glazing systems susceptible to thermal breakage.
The ultra violet part of the light spectrum is responsible for causing the large majority of fading of artefacts and furnishings caused by the sun. Specialist UV Reduction Window Film can reduce UV transmission by up to 99.5% prolonging the lifespan of paintings, carpets, goods and displays.
Can be sub-divided into two very definable categories:
One Way Privacy (Daylight Hour Privacy)
This performance is achieved by the films reacting differently to variations in light levels. In basic terms a reflective surface will be shown on the side of the film which is flooded with the strongest light source (normally daylight). At the same time observers on the “dark side” of the film will be able to see through the glass in a normal fashion. This performance requires a lux differential of at least 4:1 in favour of the brightest side of the film. During low levels of daylight and throughout the night, if artificial light is being used inside the room the effect will totally reverse.
Total Privacy (24 Hour Privacy)
These films allow the total “blocking” of vision from both sides of the glass on which the material is applied. Options are available to provide these levels of privacy without reducing light transmission or at the other extreme total blockout.
DECORATIVE FILMS
For use on partitions and screens in addition to windows these films provide visual enhancement to existing glass. A selection of patterns and colours are available.
Sureguard have our own facility to provide computer cut decals and graphics. These solutions provide building managers with the opportunity to emphasise corporate branding and advertising whilst still satisfying additional glass safety legislation. Logos and designs can be used to provide “manifestation” in order to limit the risk of collision with large expanses of glass.
Standard manifestation designs of dots, squares and lines are also available.
Our vast range of vinyls and digital print solutions ensure that colour options can be utilised where a particular design statement needs to be made.
SPECIALITY SERVICES
