3. Are RippingYarns.com's books under copyright?
Yes! See section on copyright notes for a full discussion.
4. I am a new author and have just written an adventure book. Is RippingYarns.com interested in publishing it?
Possibly...! We specialise in classic, true-life, adventure books and guidebooks only. If you have written a true-life adventure book or guidebook then first of all send us a brief description by e-mail at admin@rippingyarns.com. We will let you know if it fits in with our publishing plans. Please do NOT send us any unauthorised full manuscripts without asking first - you will just waste our time and yours.
If you have written a fictional account, then there are several specialist small publishing houses who may be interested. "The Writer's Handbook" and "The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook" should point you in the right direction.
5. Do you have a suggestions box for future titles?
Send me an e-mail at admin@RippingYarns.com. If enough people ask for a particular book, I'll consider it - with two provisos. Firstly the book's out-of-print, and secondly that I get permission from the copyright holder.
6. I see you have a book coming soon. I want to place an advance order. How do I do this?
Send us an e-mail at admin@rippingyarns.com, saying which book you are after. We will send you an e-mail saying when it is available on the website to order.
Note: please do NOT send any credit card details by e-mail. E-mails are not secure. Only put your credit card details into a website form with a "secure server" padlock symbol (see note below).
Payment by Credit Cards or Cheque
1. Do you use a reputable credit card verification system with a secure server?
Yes. The Ripping Yarns.com website is hosted by UKPLC - this acts as the "engine" behind many on-line businesses in the UK.
We use UKPLC's standard e-commerce engine. This has a secure server and uses Barclaycard ePDQ - one of the most trusted brands in the business - to verify credit cards.
Note: you should never type your credit card details into any website which doesn't have a secure server - you can check a secure server's certificate by clicking on the little padlock symbol at the bottom edge of the Internet Explorer window. Note also that a secure (i.e. encrypted) website will use https:// for the address instead of http://
2. Your home page is called "www.rippingyarns.com", yet your shopping basket is on a site called "https://secure.uk-plc.net". Why?
UKPLC is the company that hosts the Ripping Yarns.com website (as well as over 2 million other UK businesses). Rather than write our own from scratch, it was more secure to use UKPLC's proven existing shopping basket system.
3. I don't have a credit card. Will you accept a cheque?
Yes - if you live in the UK and have a UK bank account, you can post us a cheque instead of using a credit card. Click here to see our address.
Please make cheques payable to "Rockbuy Limited".
I'm sorry, but we don't accept overseas cheques - if you are ordering from abroad you will need to use a credit card.
IMPORTANT
If you buy an e-book from us, we would e-mail you the electronic file. Therefore, if you pay by a cheque, you must remember to put your e-mail address on the letter as well as your postal address.
If you are buying a paperback, all we need to know is your postal address.
4. I don't like these shopping basket electronic shop things. Can I e-mail you my credit card number instead?
Please do NOT put your credit card details on e-mails, to us or anyone else. Secure servers are encrypted to prevent fraud - e-mails are just plain text and can be easily hacked into. Your credit card company will refund you for Internet card fraud carried on over secure sites, but possibly not if you e-mail your card details in an unsecure way.
Delivery Times
1. If I order a paperback, what is your delivery time?
If you order a paperback over the website with a credit card, we will post the book next working day. So, if you live in the UK, you should get the book within 2-3 days (postal service permitting).
If you order by sending us a cheque in the post, it will obviously take a few days longer.
If you order a book from a third party website (such as Amazon) then that is outwith our control, so please contact Amazon not ourselves. Thank you.
2. If I order an e-book, what is your delivery time?
The e-books are available for immediate download, so it's as fast as you can download them over the net!

How to Read and Download e-books
When we started RippingYarns.com, our titles were originally published in electronic "e-book" form. Since then, (by popular demand) we have been gradually phasing out the e-books and replacing them with paperback or hardback editions.
There are still a couple of e-book titles still available on the website, and the page linked below explains how to read them.
These instructions can also be used for reading any "free sample" PDF files.
