ProClass Classification
PROCLASS - VERSION C10.2
Notes on Version C10.2: (Release date 14th December 2010)
1. Please remember that ProClass is a procurement classification, not a finance classification. Therefore it is for classifying products and services that are purchased. It is not for classifying people, projects or budgets. The purpose of ProClass is to classify spend into useful headings that will help identify savings and areas for collaboration, which in turn will lead to more efficient procurement and further savings.
2. This version is mainly adding new headings requested form users, although there is one deletion and some small description changes.
3. The biggest change is to the numbering. As more departments are having to us the numbers in their computer systems, it has become necessary to give all the top level descriptions their own numbers so that total spend can be calculated for each top level. Please note that not all the numbers for the second and/or third levels follow in sequence so a cross reference to the top level must be created, if it is going to used.
4. The headings are all in alphabetical order including new headings. This is except the 'Not Elsewhere Classified' headings which are still put at the end.
5. The headings are not in numerical order, but previously allocated numbers will remain the same and no deleted number will be reused.
6. Please remember 'Not Elsewhere Classified' is not the same as a 'Miscellaneous' as only products and services that cannot be classified elsewhere would be included here.
7. Please note that when some words have alternative spellings, for consistency, the preferred spelling is taken from the Oxford English Dictionary.
8. For any proposed additions or changes to be included in the next release, please either post them on the ProClass Forum on the website, or send them to Terry Ashmore at Coding International Ltd. They will be posted on the website under 'Proposed New Headings' and discussed on the Forum. It would be appreciated if all suggested additions or changes could be complementary to the existing classification and kept to a minimum. Although It is was planned that the number of headings should stay around 300, this has proved impossible, however the intention is still to keep the number of headings as low as possible.
9. For Emergency Services specific headings please see ProClass Emergency Services Classification
