Neatie's Buckwheaties
Buckwheatie Beauties

Buckwheatie Beauties
Cereal
The philosophy with my cereal is 'bung in a bit of this, and a bit of that'.
Some mornings I desire something a little sweeter so I will add more dried fruit, some mornings I wish for something simpler and more savoury so will simply have a mix of shelled hemp seeds and buckwheaties.
Here is my favourite:

2 x tbsp Mesquite (Sometimes a tsp Suma for that extra va-va-voom!)
1 x tbsp Tahini
1 x tbsp Oil (usually flax or 'Beauty Oil' by Viridian)
1 x tsp Agave or Yacon Syrup
2 x tbsp Water/Coconut water
Mix the above ingredients in the base of your bowl to make a paste. The runnier the paste, the easier it is to coat the mixture. Then add your Buckwheaties (usually half a cup) and whatever else you fancy. I tend to add shelled hemp seeds, coconut chips, raisins or currants, cacao nibs, and goji berries. Stir the paste into your mixture and add mylk. My favourite mylk is almond or hemp (see 'R-awesome Recipe' on how to make it)
If you are not interested in raw food but simply want a cereal without artificial sugar/sweeteners, oats or wheat based products, why not give this a try:

Half cup of Buckwheaties
Handful of chopped up Dates
Handful of Raisins/coconut chips/goji berries
1 x tbsp honey
1 x tsp Tahini (pulped sesame seeds)
1x tsp Flax Oil (or any cold pressed oil)
Mix the honey, tahini and oil together in a small dish. Add the half cup of buckwheaties in the dressing and mix until well coated. Prepare the chopped Dates, coconut chips, raisens and goji's (I tend to soak my goji's in a little coconut water, ten minutes prior to adding to the cereal, makes them easier to digest). Mix all remaining ingredients with the buckwheaties and serve with milk/mylk. Enjoy every scrummy mouthful for a healthy breakfast or snack.
Puddings – My Favourite!
Here are a couple of my favourite raw desserts using Buckwheaties and they all come from one of the first recipe books I bought called 'Raw Magic' by Kate Wood.
It focuses on the new superfoods that have become more widely available on the market. This is an entirely different subject, but if you want to find out more please see my links page for further details.

'Purple Mayhem' – Kate Wood ‘Raw Magic’
1 x tbsp choc powder
1 x tsp purple corn extract (can be left out)
2 x tbsp Mesquite
1 x tbsp tahini
1x tbsp Agave Nectar
2 x tbsp Water
1 x cup Buckwheaties
Put the powders (choc, purple corn extract and mesquite) in a small bowl. Add the tahini, agave nectar and water and give it a good stir. Combine the buckwheaties and mix again. Eat straight away whilst crisp as a breakfast cereal with mylk or as a simple, quick and easy plain pudding.
For a none-raw version, melt some dark chocolate and stir in the buckwheaties for a sweet treat, like the crispy cakes you used to make when you were younger, only better (for you).
The ultimate raw buckwheatie recipe is Kate's 'Tarts for the tart' recipe which is like Millionaire Shortbread. It puts the Yum in Yummy, no doubt about it! It is divine and it is well worth buying the book purely for that recipe alone!
Healthy Apple Crumble
100g Almonds
100g Brazil Nuts
125 g Buckwheaties
Place the nuts in a food processor or blender and process nuts down into pieces no smaller then a grain of rice. Transfer to mixing bowl. Then do the same with the Buckwheaties but be careful not to blend otherwise you will be left with flour. Mix in with the other processed nuts.
6 x Apples (peeled and cored)
125g Majool Dates (remove stones)
1x tbsp Cinnamon
If you have a juicer, put the dates and apples through with the blank plate on. If you don't own a juicer you can either use a food processor, or hand-held blender. You should achieve the texture you get from cooked apple crumble where it is liquefied but still bitty. The dates should thicken the mixture slightly. Mix in the cinnamon and place apple mixture into the base of a dish approx. 3 inches high. Top with crumble mixture made earlier and serve warm buy popping it into your dehydrator for a couple of hours or simply warming it in the oven.
Serve with a healthy cream (recipe below), so simple but soooooo good!
Maca Cream
125g Macadamia Nuts
60g Dates
1x tsp Vanilla Extract or Cinnamon
Water (quantity depending on whether you want thick or pourable cream)
Blend above ingredients, adding water to desired consistency and enjoy!
