Jesters first got involved in the Juggling / Circus Equipment industry at the start of the Nineties. At that time it was one of only a handful of suppliers in Europe. In our early days we traded as a travelling stall at bigger Craft Shows and Agricultural Shows. It was in 1992 that our first shop was established in the Meadowhall Centre, followed by a second one at Hunters Bar, Sheffield and in 1995 we first opened in Ambleside, in the Lake District
We have always been at the forefront of developments in the Industry since our early days – we were founder members of the Juggling Trade Federation, which worked hard to set standards in production and distribution to ensure that customers got quality equipment at realistic prices.
Jak is known and respected throughout UK and Europe, having introduced many of today’s performers to the world of Juggling. He has been involved in setting up and developing many of the one and two day juggling events – particularly in the North of England – many of which still take place on an annual basis and he has traded at many of these through the years. Still based in the North, Jak has taken a side step from the business and let daughter, Kelly, take a firm hold of Jesters to bring it into the 21st Century.
We have always been closely involved with other aspects of our unique industry. For example, we have continuously supported the British Juggling Convention for longer than any other business and Jak has been part of the Organising Committee of the BJC for more years than he would care to remember. For those of you who have been around the scene for a while, it was Jesters who provided all the decoration and toys at the Millennium BJC in York. It was also Jesters who staged the Lakes Circus Festival in 2002.
We have always strived to offer a good selection of Juggling equipment and other props to suit all levels and all budgets (whilst avoiding the really tacky bottom end stuff!). As we are not manufacturers we have always had on offer props from several manufacturers and we offer sound, unbiased advice.
As well as our retail arm we have distributed juggling equipment on a wholesale basis for many years. Besides selling to retail shops we supply many businesses in the leisure industry; workshop packages go to Youth Clubs, Scouts, Guides, Schools, and Management Training Centres etc. Many workshop coordinators also buy goods for resale and of course many entertainers buy directly from us – we have always offered some of the keenest prices and best service for Qualatex Modelling Balloons, not to mention Grimas make up.
