When you carry out due diligence ahead of an investment, it is essential to understand the cultural and process capability maturity of the company
But there are few methodologies around that will help you to assess and benchmark these 'soft' aspects, quickly and objectively.
INPACT is an Integrated Process and Culture Transformation methodology which is being used for Project Readiness Assessment (see elsewhere on this site).
At its heart are two models: the Management Culture model and the Capability Maturity model. Using these in combination, we can rapidly assess where a company lies on a multi-point scale and use this to help you understand how successful the company is likely to be in achieving its plans and meeting its growth targets.
For example:
- If the company culture is 'command and control', with significant levels of distrust and 'tribalism', and the plan is to embark on a growth strategy, we know that this is unlikely to be successful without appropriate corrective action.
- If the capability of the company to manage its processes is fairly 'ad hoc', and the plan is to introduce new IT systems, we can predict that the cost of implementation and training will need to be substantial if the company is to succeed.
