When you carry out due diligence ahead of a planned merger or acquisition, it is essential to understand the cultural differences and capability maturity of the other company.

But there are few methodologies around that will help you to assess and benchmark these 'soft' aspects, quickly and objectively.

INPACT is an Integrated Process and Culture Transformation methodology which is being used for Project Readiness Assessment (see elsewhere on this site).

At its heart are two models: the Management Culture model and the Capability Maturity. Using these in combination, we can rapidly assess where each company lies on a multi-point scale and use this to help you understand the potential barriers to a successful merger or acquisition.

It may be that there are significant culture differences that will need to be addressed - for example:

  • The extent to which 'silo working' is inherent in the company and the level of distrust between departments
  • The capability of the company to handle change and standardisation of processes.
