Philosophy for Children - A two-day certificated course
Philosophy for Children: A two-day certificated course
The essential preparation for starting philosophy in your shoolLed by Steve Williams (Seminar code TT08)
Introduction
Philosophy for Children (P4C) is an increasingly popular initiative for developing the curiosity, imagination and thinking skills of pupils through meaningful dialogue. It involves a powerful, varied and thorough methodology to reinvigorate teaching and learning. Research has established P4C as an effective way of raising academic achievement, enhancing pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development and realising creative potential. This course is approved and certificated by SAPERE (the professional organisation for P4C in Britain). It will give teachers the basic qualification in P4C and provide enough guidance for them start philosophising with their classes. Participants will have the opportunity to try out P4C in between the two days of the course and review their experiences during the second day.
In order to develop support beyond the course itself, participants will receive a one year membership of SAPERE and a handbook including sample resources. SAPERE membership includes advice and useful notices by email, four practical newsletters and conference discounts.
