Contra-indications, contra-restrictions/actions
Contra-action is when a reaction occurs either during or after treatment. This can range from reddening of skin to allergic reaction to media used. Obviously if a contra-action occurs during treatment, treatment should be stopped immediately. If it happens after and is an adverse reaction it should be recorded for future reference, so the cause is not repeated. This also includes feeling hot or shivery as the blood pressure is affected (individual) by relaxation and stimulation and as the process of self-healing and detoxing occurs.
Contra-restrictions are conditions that can be treated around e.g. warts, scratches etc which can be covered with a plaster. Receiving any other form of therapy or medication.There are certain conditions, Contra-indications that it is advisable not to massage with and these are listed below:
- High temperature, fever, nausea, swelling or inflammation - Severe bruising, any skin disorders in the areas to be treated - Recent injury, accident or surgery to the head, neck or shoulder areas, such as whiplash, concussion, broken bones or sprains etc. . less than 3 – 6 mths depending on severity; - Acute infectious diseases such as flu, chest infection or a bad cough or cold. - Scalp infections. - Fungal, Bacterial or Viral infections i.e. Athletes Foot, Ringworm or Verruca. - Aneurosa, food poisoning;- Cancer and any other serious medical condition whilst undergoing treatment (Chemo) - Very high or low blood pressure; 1st trimester of pregnancy (history of miscarriage) - Osteoporosis Frailty, Chronic Fatigue Epilepsy, Diabetes and Spondelites or Spondelosis in the neck. - Alcohol - to be avoided 24hrs before treatment and immediately after.Anyone in doubt about a condition should consult his or her doctor before receiving a treatment. Dr’s consent letter - available on request (just need to be signed and returned).
Those receiving a massage may feel drowsy after a treatment so it is advisable
Aftercare - Homecare - Apply Sunblock SPF 25+ daily. Avoid stressful situations wherever possible or learn to deal with it in an external way rather than internalising. Smile! Keep a positive outlook on all aspects of life. Remember we’re all human . . . . and all humans are fallible!
Puffiness around wrist and ankles - massage around wrist (up towards elbow) and ankles (up towards knees) twice daily after shower or bath with moisturizing body oil, lotion or cream to encourage lymph drainage.homepage
