The Definitive Collection - Elvis Presley - The Television Years VHS Pal

Taken from the Sleeve:

In the 1950's, television was an infant medium, struggling to find its place in popular culture/ It was a relatively tame, family oriented entrertainment source, with stars such as Lawrence Welk, Liberace & Perry Como presenting the musical tastes of the day. But on September 9, 1956, Elvis Presley got the establishment all shook up with a raucous, sexually-charged performance on teh Ed Sullivan show that reverberated throughout the land, with protective mothers shiedling their babies' eyes and tennage girls feeling their first thmps of adolescent seuality.

This wonderful installment, titled tthe Television Years, focuses on Elvis' groundbreaking, and at the time morally indecent, telelvision appearances in the 1950s, and then, after a nearly fifteen-year break, his revitalising concert shows in the late '60s and early '70s.

Through fabulous footage and amazin stories, we will floolw Elvis' early career on television, fromhis first appearance on local Shreveport television station KWKH-TV, through his appearances on the Milton Berle Show (from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hancock), the Steven Allen Show (where Elvis was forced to wear a tuxedo and sing 'Hound Dog' to an acutal hound odg) to the infamous Ed Sullivan Show (that was deemed so racy, they would only shoot him from the wasit up), and the amazing duet between teh 'Chairman of the Board' and the 'King of Ron n Roll' in March of 1960, when Frank Sinatra, a former critic of Elvis and rock 'n' roll in genered, swallowed his pride and hosted 'Welcome Back Elvis', a one-hour special celebrating Elvis' return from the army.

We will hear firsthand stories of Elvis' rise from unknown Memphis boy to national hero from notable friends and colleauges. Famed game-show host Wink Martindale, a former 1950s D.J., was a personal friend of Elvis, has many firsthand experiences, and relates great behind the scenes stories of their historic broadcast appearances in the early days.

Rarely has an individual shot up from complete obscurity to worldwide icon as quickly as ?Elvis Presley. Don't miss this amazing edition of this documentary, and see for yourself, the unbelievable rise of Elvis, during THE TELEVISION YEARS.
