Wendel, a romantic but accident-prone optimist, is an aspiring novelist, reduced to penning rhymes and messages for a greetings card company. His best friend,Lou, is an unsuccessful cellist with dreams of Philharmonic glory.
When they move in toegether, they find themsleves under observation by a succession of sinister characters. It appears that this threatening interest is linked to a mysterious inheritance which has been bequeathed to Wendel by his Chinese foster father. Unfortuneately, the bequest is conceled in a riddle which Wendel and Lou have to solve, whilst avoiding the murderous attentions of the vilains pursuing the same goa.
Helped by Lou's musician frined Jennifer and his ex-wife Sally and armed and protected by their own naive incompetence, the two friends set out in search of the priceless artifact which will transform their lives.
