The body of a beautiful young Hungarian emigre is discovered in a London hotel bathroom. Katya Zimanyi was a computer science graduate, but was she a professional in more than one field, perhaps in the proverbial oldest in the world?

The hotel room was rented by middle-aged businessman Harry Hatton (Robert Pickavance), who is brought to the Old Bailey to stand trial for murder. Vehemently claiming his innocence, Hatton is nonetheless found guilty. His daughter Alison convinces defence attorney Sarah Swithen to launch an appeal, despite her defeat by Jeremy Aldermarten. Sarah turns to barrister James Kavanagh for advice, and also hires a private detective named Yelland who digs into the dead woman's past. Was Katya working as a prostitute or was she plying a more secretive trade?

Meanwhile appraches are being made to Kavanagh to become a judge, so how much support will Sarah be able to rely on from one of London's most highly respected crimininal advocates?!
