A Unique Opportunity

Public Announcement you will hear or read about in the not too distant future from one or all of the following bodies: Government Departmental Ministers, Thames Gateway Partnership, London Thames Gateway Forum London Development Agency and the East London Thames Riverside Co Limited.

The announcement will embrace ways in which the above Agencies propose to assist the Economical Regeneration of those East London constituencies in Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, and Waltham Forest. This will include capital investment and business relocations , combined with supporting learning skills courses to fill vacancies – and even new employment opportunities, collectively working together towards the construction of new key workers and communities; social affordable housing stocks, (which carry quality kite mark standards and best practice designs + refurbishments); and open public spaces – all whilst creating new environments which supports a range of diversities. All of this will together male East London constituencies the pride of London’s capital fringed urban areas that people will wish to come and do business – live – work – and visit.

It is to this long term East London Regeneration Programme objective that we of Thames Gateway Delivery Regeneration Partnership – (an body comprising of Public, Private, & Voluntary Sector stakeholder practitioners & partners), are pleased to make their announcement of contributing towards the East London Economical Regeneration.

By way of establishing yet another of their unique economical regeneration and new Horizons Programmes, from June 2004, we shall be known by the title “Tourism Means Business”.

Yes, East London is to become the capital’s latest destination for Businesses and Leisure Tourism companies, Buyers, and clientele from home and aboard – this will put us in the tourism destination market.

Our Commitment – Contribution to Regeneration in East London

Commissioned in the Autumn of 1996 – Thames gateway Partnership and London Thames Gateway Forum launched an in-depth five-year investigation study into:-

- What presently operates as a sustainable Tourism Industry in the Thames Gateway Constituencies?

- What Sort of Tourism Industry can be created? – Looking at what presently does not exist & sustainability

- How will Tourism stimulate economical growth – yet not dominate, or be destructively costly to such constituency communities affected. Which services should be operated?

- Set out any skills shortage and work towards ways this maybe overcome to introduce and sustain Tourism Industries.

- Infrastructural role as this develops – By further capital investment through networks; for operation of an eco-friendly Tourism Development Programme?

- Draft up an environment and constituencies impacts Tourism Assessment Report.

Our Response to all the above categories were outlined in our final Thames Gateway Delivery Regeneration Partnership draft investigative Tourism conclusions – solutions – proposals and recommendations Report. Published in the summer of 2002 and was made readily available not just to selective groups but widely amongst the entire voluntary stakeholders member organisations, legislative Government Ministers, (who used certain parts of our Report within their own British Tourism as part of an overhaul of the Industry, which will see London and British Tourism Authorities modernised and re-branded as ‘Visit London and Visit Britain’ bureaus come on line, with new powers and a wider Tourism focus development agenda that moves away from centralising practices – of only home (UK) and continental marketing). In addition, Regional Tourism operated Agencies were re-organised with a new role, responsibilities and working titles that started with [Experience – That Destination] as it’s name.

The outcome of the Commission Report was to approve the establishing of the Thames Gateway Region as the Nations latest Business • Conferencing • Exhibition • Seminars • Team Building • Celebrations • Hospitality • Inbound Visitors destinations. This will offer the client Tourism Buyers the best in purpose built Business Tourism establishments – matched with Equal Opportunities (recognising the cultural differences of each area involved), and mindful of environmental locations so as to be in keeping.

The intention is that there will be establishments to accommodate delegates’ facilities, (with a maximum capacity of 800 persons down to about 600 minimum), supported by offices and front line services. A new recent development of Business Tourism services will be to offer that of business satellite service provisions, which in July 2004 shall be marketed and available to all business Tourism clientele buyers and their delegates who shall request its inclusion in their ‘one-stop-shop’ business tailored personal packaged deals’.

Our Leisure Tourism Programme shall cover that of the usual ‘come to see our Heritage’ – Cultural Environmental – Historic Built and natural properties. Later this will then extend to offering the visitors opportunities to experience a varied and diversified range of Leisure Services provisions that are unique to London’s Urban Capital. These shall include:-

- Coach – Cycling – Walking Guided Conducted Group Tours – available also in sign language, touch feel, descriptive way, and others; plus catering provisions for our disabled (UK) and continental visitors.

- Sketch – Painting – Photography Tutor Classes and Field Courses + other Hobbies, Amateur Improvement Skills – from Country/Cultural Arts and Crafts to looking at other aspects that may be identified by visitors through surveys that would be mutually beneficial.

- To pursue or engage in person interests viz, sports events and courses, ranging from Golf – Tennis, including other Ball Sports – Water Sports. All of this will be also aimed at engaging with participants in understanding qualities and environmental surroundings.

- Wildlife – (Furna-Flora) Country Parks – Nature Trails, (which shall be introduced under “Wildlife Watching”, where a satellite link can watch migrating and Zoological Societies) – Conservation Groups, (a Professional Naturalist will present support programmes).

Many of our Leisure Services will be unique in that they not only come from the Voluntary sector of society. Integration will be an important element aimed at people of all generations/ages and cultural/backgrounds, including abled/disabled visitors.
