Who we areMy name is Jeremy and I started walking dogs professionally in 1996, since then I have cared for over seventy dogs. Some dogs have stayed for the brief duration of a clients London contract, whilst others I have had since they were puppies and are now nearly nine years old. I have lodged clients dogs for as short as a weekend and as long as eleven months when that owner had an over seas contract. Canine Central is very flexible. For many years I have walked predominantly on Hampstead Heath with between eight and ten dogs at a time. I have prided myself on never having lost a dog, my dogs never becoming involved in aggression or aggravating the public. My partner’s name is Florbela. She joined Canine Central in May 2004 and we have worked together ever since. We are both psychology students. Florbela is presently studying animal grooming and Jeremy is studying canine psychology with a view to become a canine behaviourist. Having two ‘doggy’ people walking together has allowed ‘in-pack’ training to become more sophisticated and stimulating for both us and the dogs; we are now able to provide even more stimulating games for our dogs. What we do: - Collect your dog at appointed time
- Tailor a routine to suit the clients requirements
- Place him with other appropriate dogs, depending on age size and health needs
- Take the pack of between six and ten dogs (depending on trainability and responsiveness) to the forest to walk and play engaging games for between one a half to two hours. Return dogs home.
- The whole process of collection/walk/return can take between three and a half to four hours. Thus giving every dog about four hours of quality time where they are not left at home alone.
- Look after our clients dogs when they go on holiday
- Supply advice on feeding, training and guidance on behavioural irregularities
- Assist clients on crises by accompanying to the vets in emergency
- Rapidly responding to clients in need, unplanned business meeting, sick children, lost keys
Dogs have evolved to be physical social creatures. In their natural state they would only ever be alone if the pack had rejected them. For example if food was too scarce to support them, or the dog was no longer healthy enough to keep up with the pack, Their bodies are capable of incredible feats of energy If this energy is not channelled into positive activity such as running and playing it is often released as anxiety, destructive activities and other antisocial behaviour and even a decline in physical health and anxiety related diseases. Dogs are also incredibly gregarious. 99% of dogs are socially well adjusted and actively seek out companionship from their own kind. You have only to witness the sheer exuberance and joy they exhibit in their “Pleased to meet you” greeting rituals. Many dogs that we have encountered that are at first apprehensive, when given encouragement soon come out of their shells. Benefits a dog receicves when walked every day: - Receives appropriate exercise, less likely to become over weight
- Gets far more stimulation through being with other dogs than people can provide
- Less likely to chew furniture while owner is at work
- Can relieve himself and not cross his legs until the owner to come home
- Gains confidence through socialisation
- Maintains physical fitness, less prone to anxiety related diseases
- Disposition becomes more stable as he is allowed doggy free expression
Benefits to the owner include: - Returns home to an un-soiled un-chewed house
- Dog is less demanding, over energetic, or anxious
- Bad habits become more controllable
- Improved relationship with dog
