We all know that there are millions of road traffic bollards in use around the UK, and that if we were able to rework them when they become damaged it would be an environmentally commendable thing to do. The "Throwaway Society" we live in does not encourage this way of thinking, but B.R.S initially took a long look at methods which could be economically viable yet be of an acceptable finished quality standard whilst maintaining their prime function. Other processes were found to use powerful chemicals or costly ultra sonic bombardment, both systems inherently themselves being environmentally and worker unfriendly (even though a greater proportion of bollards may possibly be refurbishable).
Our Method, which is so low-tech and labour intensive procedure, simply involves a manual worker firstly stripping out all metal work and miscellaneous signage then thoroughly cleaning with a special detergent in warm water. After a full bollard inspection a decision about whether the next repair stages can commence is made. If the bollard is not acceptable it is simply cut up for plastic or for return to the original customer or supplier for their disposal. From that point on a laborious procedure, by using our special road film and/or graffiti remover products are hand applied, then rinsed and inspected. This is repeated until only the most obstinate of marks are still embedded in the surfaces. At this stage plastic repairs can be made on non-strategic or opaque areas by low heat welding. Any remaining marks are then individually removed by meticulously hand scraping of surface and when we are satisfied with the results warm air is used to "re-seal" the surfaces and a final polish is applied. We then replace any signage or special items like top "spy holes" and the unit is finally "BRS" labelled and wrapped in polythene for onward delivery.
We believe that other processes cannot be totally environmentally benificial and also that the whole life costs simply don't justify the means. The profit margins are understandably tight but our philosophy is one of "pile them high(!) and sell them cheap" and this we believe will firmly establish our methods and service to become dear to the hearts of all our customers!
Finally remeber the above process is repeatable over and over again subject only to the condition of the bollard. We can also re-cycle many other plastic products e.g. Grit Bins, Posts, Pedestrian Controls, Large Cones and Road Signs etc.
